I saw my good friend Jeremy Grantham this past week, and he mentioned he was recently interviewed on The Great Simplification podcast.
I had a long drive right after our visit, so I gave the lengthy episode a complete listen. I loved it! And I thought you might enjoy it too.
If you don’t already know him, Jeremy achieved great success as an investor and has since spent much of his time and resources addressing some of humanity’s greatest challenges, such as climate change, biodiversity, toxicity, income inequality, and population growth.
I had the privilege of getting to know Jeremy quite well when we served together on the Board of the Nature Conservancy, and today we serve together on the board of SPUN.
If you have a bit of time, the whole episode is worthy of it. But If you are more pressed, skip ahead to the very end. Jeremy has always seemed to me to be a tough-minded realist, but at the end of the podcast discussion he argues — persuasively and rather optimistically —that, for anyone who seeks purpose in their life (and I think Instigator readers are generally in that group), there has never been a better opportunity than right now.
We face various challenges. Addressing them successfully will require broad, diverse engagement. With so much complex and challenging work to be done, there are great opportunities for engagement, collaboration, and fulfillment. That’s precisely the spirit of this newsletter.
I hope you will consider Jeremy’s point of view and let us know what you think.
